Ambience both inside and outside of Hotel. The lovely grounds and the feel of the Dining Room. Peaceful and tranquil walking around the Hotel gardens.
Bathroom needed upgrading plus a small fridge or mini-bar in room would be useful otherwise Hotel was a pleasant experience. Menu needs to be upgradied.
The building itself and the grounds surrounding it ooze with a sense of history. The interior did not disappoint having been updated to provide all the facilities you would expect in a hotel of this class in a sensitive and stylish manner. The staff were all very friendly and knowledgeable about the building itself and the surrounding area. Breakfast was very good. The evening meal (from the bar menu) was excellent value. We loved the peacocks in the grounds. We stopped there to mark a very special occasion, the staff and the place itself made the weekend feel really special, surpassing our all our expectations.
Perfectly placed for a weekend visiting North Wales.
Ruthin Castle Hotel is a beautiful hotel in all respects - bedrooms, common parts and the grounds, and the price for the room was excellent and we would most certainly recommend it.
very pleasant staff everywhere and very good standard of decor and furnishing in all public rooms and the grounds and garden were delightful.
uncomfortable seating for eating in the library bar and the lighting in the bedroom was rather dim
We enjoyed a pleasant meal in the library bar where the service was friendly and helpful. We eavesdropped on the Mediaeval Banquetting Hall entertainment and considered the proceedings were professsionally conducted.
No complaints. Our bedroom decor and furnishings were quite old and were due for refurbishing.
Luxurious interior and very interesting historically. Great grounds to walk around and beautiful peacocks walking around. Nice and peaceful. I would love to get married here! You could get some great photographs! I brought my 4 year old and she loved exploring the grounds and looking for the peacock feathers. The locals are lovely, helpful and friendly. I had a 2 night stay and it was enough time to relax and explore locally.
Can't really complain about anything much as everything we asked for was met. I would have liked face cloths in the bathroom though. Also the radiator in the bathroom was scorching hot which I found odd on a boiling summers day but it was switched off when we asked (no control for us to do ourselves). All this is just picking though and doesn't spoil your stay.
The grounds and the room was beautiful.
Not very disabled friendly. No ramp to the front and the disable entry to the medieval hall was difficult due to the shale stones which were diffict to push the wheelchair through. Also think they should do a tour of the grounds would love to have known where all the passageways went to or what they were used for.
As visitors from overseas, we were thrilled to be staying in a genuine castle, with modern luxury. The ambience, the grounds, the staff, the food - all were outstanding! We will recommend it to all our family and friends and believe it was one of the highlights of our holiday. We loved it so much we booked in for a second night!
The architecture was intriguing. The high ceiling was interesting especially in the Library. The lounge with the open fire was very comfortable and relaxing. Our visit was brief but we thoroughly enjoyed it. When the owners have finished their refurbishment it will be magnificent.
Room 130 was very close to the kitchen and the service lift, which was rather noisy after 2300 hours and before 0700. Directions to the hotel could be improved, both on the website and in the town.
Quiet retreat in comfortable surroundings
I thought the castle was over rated For the money, noticed a few things hanging off the ceiling in corridors. Looked like electric items. The ceilings in corridors were suspended ceilings that looked like they had been painted black very poorly, carpets in corridors looked in well need of a clean. The room was very small about 12ft square, Wifi was near on useless. Not worth the money 2 out of 5 stars
Location, atmosphere, service, hotel style
Very friendly and welcoming. Bedroom was excellent, tastefully furnished and clean. All the staff we encountered were friendly and helpful. We had the continental breakfast which was more than ample, and certainly better than many we have had before. Didnt eat in the dining room but did have 2 evening meals in the bar... wonderful. All in all a thoroughly enjoyable and relaxing stay and would return and recommend.
Only downside, could not get the heating in our room to go lower, it was either on high or off.
It had a quirky feel about it with modern facilities coupled together with an historic past. The situation was perfect complimented by the grounds and the nearness of the town and many attractions in North Wales..
